Adding writers and co-writers
How to add the other writers of a composition and invite them to confirm their share.

Start with your own share
In Step 1 of the wizard, you set your own writer share — the percentage of the composition you own. You can type a custom percentage or choose from the common presets (100%, 50%, 33.33%, 25%, etc.). You also select the role you played on the composition: Music, Lyrics, Music & Lyrics, or Arranger.
Adding co-writers in Step 2
In Step 2, click the button to add another writer. For each co-writer you need to provide:
- Name — their full legal name as it appears on their PRO registration
- Email address — used to send them an invitation to confirm their share
- Role(s) — Music, Lyrics, Music & Lyrics, or Arranger
What happens after you add a co-writer
When you add a co-writer with an email address, MRP sends them an invitation email containing a unique link. When they click the link, they are taken to MRP where they can review the composition and confirm (or dispute) the share attributed to them. Until they confirm, their status shows as Awaiting Confirmation.
Co-writers who are already on MRP
If the co-writer already has an MRP account, they will also receive an in-app notification in addition to the invitation email. The same confirmation step applies regardless of whether they are a new or existing member.
Writer roles
Writer roles describe the creative contribution each person made to the composition:
- Music — wrote the melody, harmony, or musical arrangement
- Lyrics — wrote the words
- Music & Lyrics — contributed both melody and words
- Arranger — arranged an existing work
Add writers before locking
You can add co-writers at any point before the composition is locked. Once a composition is locked, no new writers can be added without first requesting an amendment, which resets the composition to draft status.
