Common errors and how to fix them

A reference guide to the most common error messages and blocked actions in MRP, with the steps to resolve each one.

Writer shares do not total 100%

Every composition must have its writer shares add up to exactly 100% before it can be locked. If the total is over or under 100%, the lock button will be disabled and the Contributors section will show the current total alongside the shortfall or excess. To fix this, open the composition, go to the Contributors section, and adjust the share percentages until they total exactly 100. If you have co-writers whose shares are not yet confirmed, the total is calculated from all shares that have been set — confirmed and unconfirmed alike.

The Lock button is disabled

The Lock button is disabled when one or more prerequisites are not met. The composition page shows the reason directly below the button. Common causes include:

  • Writer shares do not total 100%
  • Publisher shares do not total 100% (when a publisher is present)
  • One or more co-writers have not yet confirmed their claim
  • A publishing disposition (self-published, has a publisher, or unpublished) has not been set for one or more writers
  • The composition has not completed all required wizard steps

A co-writer did not receive their invitation

If a co-writer reports that they did not receive an invitation email, check the following:

  • Verify that the email address on the invite is correct — open the composition, go to Contributors, and check the email shown on the pending invite card
  • Ask the co-writer to check their spam or junk mail folder
  • Resend the invitation using the Resend button on the invite card — this sends a fresh email immediately
  • If the email address was wrong, remove the pending invite and re-send with the corrected address

A composition is blocked from TuneRegistry export

The TuneRegistry Readiness card on the composition page shows every field that is missing or invalid. Work through the listed issues from top to bottom — each issue links to the relevant section of the composition page. The most common causes are a missing writer IPI number, a missing contribution role, or a writer whose claim has not been confirmed. Resolve all issues and the composition will become exportable.

ISRC shows as invalid

MRP validates ISRCs against the standard format CC-XXX-YY-NNNNN. If your ISRC is flagged as invalid, check that it is 12 characters long (excluding hyphens) and follows the two-letter country code, three-character registrant code, two-digit year, five-digit designation format. Hyphens between segments are optional — both CAAA00000001 and CA-AAA-00-00001 are accepted. Contact your distributor or label if you are unsure of the correct ISRC for a recording.

IPI number not accepted

IPI (Interested Parties Information) numbers are 9 or 11 digits. If the field shows an error, check that you have entered only digits with no spaces, hyphens, or other characters. IPI numbers are issued by your PRO — if you do not have one yet, contact your PRO to apply. Some PROs display the IPI with dots or spaces as a formatting convention, but the underlying number should be entered without separators.

A composition shows as Not Found

If you navigate to a composition and see a Not Found page, the most likely causes are that the composition was deleted, you do not have permission to view it, or there is a temporary session issue. Sign out and back in to refresh your session, then try the link again. If the issue persists and you believe you should have access, contact the composition's owner to ask them to re-send an invitation.

Amendments require full re-confirmation

When a creator requests an amendment on a locked composition, the composition returns to draft status and any active registration submission is moved to a reauthorisation-required state. All co-writers must re-confirm their claims and the composition must be re-locked before it can be submitted for registration again. This is by design — an amendment changes the rights record, so the entire confirmation and authorisation process must restart to ensure everyone has agreed to the updated information.
