Master Rights and SoundExchange integration

Track sound-recording ownership and composition links in MRP today; SoundExchange-specific integration, export, and submission are still being developed.

Composition rights and master rights are different

A composition records the song itself: melody, lyrics, writers, publishing, and PRO registration. A sound recording is a particular performance or production of that song. The owner of the master may be an artist, label, company, or another rights holder, and that ownership is not inferred from the composition split.

Recordings / Master Rights

Open Recordings / Master Rights to add one recording manually, download the current MRP Sound Recording CSV template, import a CSV catalog, use Album Batch Setup, review My Recordings, or open a professional Managed Catalog. Guided Song Setup → Recording Information and Add one recording save to My Recordings. Album Batch Setup and reusable CSV imports create Managed Catalogs. A recording can be managed before it is linked to a composition.

Confirming recording ownership

For each recording, record the master or sound-recording owner, ownership percentage, claim role, SoundExchange RDR role, territory, and effective dates. Confirm ownership only when you have evidence for the stated role and percentage. Correcting a confirmed ownership record creates a new governed record rather than silently rewriting prior evidence.

Do not infer master ownership

Creating or importing a recording in MRP is available now. SoundExchange-specific completeness, validation, export, and submission are separate, and MRP is still finalizing the requirements with SoundExchange. You can complete your MRP recording and ownership information now, then add any additional SoundExchange-required information once the integration is available. Current readiness prompts are internal preparation only: they do not transmit a filing or confirm SoundExchange acceptance.
