How PRO registration works in MRP

What registration means

PRO registration records the underlying composition with the relevant Performing Rights Organisation so performance royalties can be allocated to the right writers and publishers. In MRP, a composition must first be locked. The creator then uses the registration controls to review readiness and, when required, explicitly Authorize Registration before MRP prepares or progresses a submission.

What you need before registering

Before a composition can be exported for TuneRegistry, the following must all be true:

• The composition is locked and the relevant writer evidence is eligible
• Every writer has an IPI number on file
• Every writer has a resolvable last name
• Every writer is affiliated with a PRO
• At least one writer is affiliated with a North American PRO (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, or SOCAN) — TuneRegistry requires this
• Every writer's contribution role maps to a valid TuneRegistry type: Music, Lyrics, Music & Lyrics, or Arranger
• Writer shares total exactly 100%
• Every publisher linked to a writer has a publisher IPI number on file
• All confirmation and publishing issues shown by MRP are resolved
• You are authorized to manage the composition's registration

The TuneRegistry Readiness card

On each composition page you will find a TuneRegistry Readiness card. This card runs the same validation checks MRP applies at export time and shows you exactly which fields are incomplete or missing. Issues are listed with links to the relevant section of the composition page so you can fix them without hunting. The card updates in real time as you complete each field.

Registration metadata

Beyond the core writer and publishing information, registration requires additional composition-level metadata:

• ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code) — assigned by your PRO; enter it in the Registration Metadata section once you receive it
• HFA Song Code — the Harry Fox Agency identifier for compositions registered in North America
• Work type — whether the composition is Vocal, Instrumental, or both
• Language — required for vocal works
• Contribution roles — each writer must have a clearly defined role: Composer, Lyricist, Songwriter, or Arranger

Passport Approval and authorisation

Passport Approval and registration authorization are separate controls. The creator can request a Passport Approval round for formal review, while Authorize Registration records permission to progress the locked composition through the registration workflow. If ownership changes after authorization, MRP requires reauthorization rather than using outdated consent.

Authorization is per composition

Even when several songs were sent together in one invitation batch, each composition must be finalized, locked, and authorized separately. Registration authorization is tied to that specific song and its confirmed writers, shares, publishing information, and evidence. After the individual authorizations are complete, the songs can be included together in one TuneRegistry bulk export. The batch rule still applies: the songs must have the same writers and publishing relationships, although their percentages may differ.

After export

The Registration Status card and Registration Dashboard distinguish a composition that is ready, authorized, sent for registration, processing, registered, or needs attention. A TuneRegistry export provides Contacts and Works XLSX files where that workflow applies. Do not treat an export or authorization as a completed PRO registration until MRP shows the appropriate registered outcome and you have the confirming information from the registry or PRO.
