What do the Passport Status badges mean?
MRP uses two separate status displays on every composition: the Passport Status badge in the header, and the Registration Status card. Here is what each state means.

Two separate status systems
MRP shows status information in two distinct places on every composition page. It is important to understand they measure different things:
- Passport Status badge — shown next to the composition title in the header; reflects the overall state of the Passport as a working document
- Registration Status card — a collapsible section lower on the page; reflects where the composition is in the PRO registration workflow specifically
Passport Status badges
The badge next to the composition title reflects the composition lifecycle. The exact labels can vary by the work's current action and registration state:
Draft
The composition is being worked on. Writer shares, publishing information, and composition details are still being filled in. Most compositions start here and remain Draft until they are ready to be locked.
Locked
The composition's eligible confirmed rights evidence has been finalised. Locking generates the MRP Split Sheet and protects the ownership record. A rights change requires an amendment and a new review/lock cycle.
Registered
A registration outcome has been recorded for the composition. Do not confuse this with Locked, Sent for Registration, or Processing—use the Registration Status card and any relevant registry/PRO confirmation to understand the current stage.
Other Passport Status badges
You may occasionally see these additional states:
- Disputed — a co-writer has disputed their claimed share; the dispute must be resolved before the composition can progress
- Pending — the composition is awaiting an internal review or approval step
- Archived — the composition has been archived and is no longer active
Registration Status card
The Registration Status card tracks the work's active registration path. It uses action-focused labels such as Ready to Lock, Register Composition, Authorize Registration, Sent for Registration, Processing, Registered, and Registration Needs Attention when applicable.
Registration Needs Attention
MRP has identified a specific issue to resolve before a registration action can continue. Use the linked prompt to update the eligible source information rather than changing locked evidence outside MRP.
Ready to Lock or Register Composition
These prompts indicate the next creator action. Ready to Lock means the Passport has passed the current lock checks. After locking, Register Composition and Authorize Registration move the work into its registration workflow when appropriate.
Sent for Registration and Processing
MRP has recorded an active registration path. Continue to monitor the card and Registration Dashboard for the next status or a request to resolve an issue. An authorization or export alone is not the same as a completed registration.
ISWC explained
An ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code) is a unique identifier assigned to a composition by a PRO after registration is processed. It is the global equivalent of a barcode for a musical work — used by PROs worldwide to identify and track royalties for the composition. MRP will prompt you to add your ISWC once it has been received from your PRO.
How status relates to the Passport Score
Passport Status and Registration Status are about where the composition is in its lifecycle — Draft, Locked, Registered, and so on. The Passport Score is about documentation quality and completeness. They are independent: a composition can have a Registered status with a lower Passport Score if some optional information (like an ISRC or supporting documents) was never added. Both improve together as you add more information and progress through registration.
