Understanding your Passport Score
The Passport Score is a 0–100 measure of how completely your composition's rights information is documented. Here is how it is calculated and how to improve it.

What the Passport Score measures
Every composition in MRP has a Passport Score — a number from 0 to 100 shown on the composition page. The score reflects how completely the composition's rights information is documented. A higher score means more of the important details are on record: who wrote it, who owns what share, how publishing is arranged, and supporting information like audio links and a musical key. The score is not a registration status — a composition can be locked and registered with any score. It is a documentation quality indicator.
Score colours
The score display changes colour to indicate the documentation level at a glance:
- Green (80 and above) — documentation is strong; all essential rights information is in place
- Gold (50–79) — good progress; some sections are still incomplete
- Amber (below 50) — important information is missing; the composition needs more work
The eight scoring categories
The score reflects the documentation categories currently shown on the Passport. It is a progress signal, not an ownership determination, lock gate, or registration outcome.
Metadata — 25 points
Metadata is the largest single category. It rewards filling in the core details about the composition itself: title (always present), genre, work type (vocal, instrumental, or both), duration, and language (for vocal works). All five fields at 100% earns the full 25 points.
Writers — 20 points
This category measures whether writer shares are documented and confirmed. Writer shares must reach exactly 100% in total, and every invited co-writer must have confirmed their share, for this category to reach 100. Partial credit is given for shares that are documented but not yet fully confirmed.
Confirmation — 15 points
Confirmation tracks what proportion of rights holders have confirmed their share. If four writers are on a composition and three have confirmed, Confirmation is at 75%. All confirmed gives the full 15 points. This category works alongside the Writers category — both must reach 100 for the full rights picture to be documented.
Publishing — 10 points
Publishing is straightforward: has the publishing question been answered for the composition? Adding any publisher, marking the composition as self-published, or explicitly marking it as unpublished all earn the full 10 points. The question only needs to be answered — the specific arrangement does not affect the score.
PRO Registration — 10 points
This category reflects the registration information recorded for the composition. Locking and registration are separate lifecycle events, and the visible Registration Status card is the best source for what action is currently available.
Audio — 5 points
Adding a master audio file, a Spotify link, an Apple Music link, or any other streaming or file-sharing link earns the full 5 points. Having any one audio link is sufficient.
Supporting Information — 5 points
Supporting Information tracks a checklist of additional assets. Each item present earns a proportional share of the 5 points:
- Lyrics — typed into the General Info section or uploaded as a Lyrics document (vocal compositions only)
- Split sheet or signed agreement — uploaded in the Documents section
- Lead sheet — a chord chart or lead sheet uploaded in Documents
- Registration document — a PRO registration or copyright confirmation document
- Streaming links — a Spotify, Apple Music, or similar link in the Audio section
- ISRC — a recording with a valid ISRC code added in the Recordings section
ISWC — 5 points
An ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code) is assigned by your PRO after registration is processed. Once you receive your ISWC and enter it into MRP, this category reaches 100 and contributes the full 5 points. Before registration, this category is always 0 — that is expected.
Approvals — 5 points
Passport Approvals are formal sign-offs requested from all writer and publisher rights holders after the composition is complete. When you send approval requests and every eligible rights holder approves, this category reaches 100. Sending requests without responses earns a small amount of partial credit. No requests sent earns 0.
Sync Ready badge
When a composition's Writers score and Confirmation score both reach 100 — meaning all writer shares are documented and every rights holder has confirmed — MRP displays a Sync Ready badge on the passport header. This badge indicates that the ownership information is fully declared and confirmed, making the composition suitable for use in licensing, sync, and other rights-sensitive contexts.
Verified Passport
A composition earns the Verified Passport badge when two conditions are both met: the overall Passport Score reaches 100, and every eligible writer and publisher rights holder has completed a Passport Approval. This is the highest documentation level MRP recognises.
Score is not the same as Registration Status
The Passport Score measures documentation completeness. It is separate from the lifecycle shown on the Passport and Registration Status card. A work may be Draft, Ready to Lock, Locked, sent for registration, processing, or registered while still having optional documentation to enrich.
