How MRP generates and sends a Split Sheet

The complete workflow from confirmed rights to generated Split Sheet — what MRP does automatically and what you need to do first.

The path to a Split Sheet

MRP generates a Split Sheet at one specific moment: when a composition is locked. The steps that lead there are:

  • All writers confirm their shares — every invited co-writer accepts their claim
  • Required information is complete — composition details, publishing dispositions, and PRO information are all filled in
  • Publisher shares balance — if any writer has an external publisher, publisher shares total 100%
  • You lock the composition — from the composition page, confirm the lock action
  • MRP generates the Split Sheet — the PDF is created immediately
  • MRP stores the Split Sheet — saved to Files & Documents on the composition page
  • MRP emails the Split Sheet — sent to all collaborators who have an email address on file

Lock triggers generation

The Split Sheet is generated at the moment of locking and not before. You cannot manually trigger Split Sheet generation or create a draft Split Sheet. This is by design — the Split Sheet is intended to capture a final, confirmed state, not a work in progress.

Who receives the email

When MRP sends the Split Sheet by email, it goes to:

  • The composition creator
  • All confirmed co-writers who have an email address recorded in MRP

Resending a Split Sheet

If a collaborator did not receive the Split Sheet email, or if their email address was updated after the composition was locked, you can resend it from the Files & Documents section of the composition page. The same PDF that was generated at the time of locking will be sent — it is not regenerated.

If generation fails

In rare cases, Split Sheet generation may fail after a composition is locked. If this happens, a retry banner appears on the composition page. Clicking retry will attempt to generate the Split Sheet again without requiring the composition to be unlocked.

After an amendment

If a locked composition is amended, the composition returns to draft status. All parties must re-confirm before it can be locked again. When it is re-locked, a new Split Sheet is generated reflecting the updated confirmed information. The previous Split Sheet remains in Files & Documents and is not deleted.
