Uploading and managing composition files

Each composition has a Files & Documents section where you can upload supporting documents, add external links, and share files with collaborators.

What Files & Documents is for

The Files & Documents section stores supporting materials for a composition — things like lyrics, lead sheets, signed agreements, PRO registration confirmations, and artwork. It is a centralised place to keep everything related to a composition's rights and release in one spot, accessible to the composition's creator and any collaborators who have been given access.

Uploading a file

To upload a file, open the composition page, scroll to the Files & Documents section, and click Upload File. Select the file from your device and choose a category from the dropdown before saving. MRP will suggest a category based on the filename when it can — you can accept the suggestion or choose a different one. Files are stored securely and linked permanently to the composition.

Accepted file types and size limit

MRP accepts the following file formats for document uploads:

  • PDF (.pdf)
  • Word documents (.doc, .docx)
  • Plain text (.txt)
  • Images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp)

50 MB limit per file

Each file can be up to 50 MB. If your file is larger than this limit, compress it or convert it to a smaller format before uploading.

Instead of uploading a file, you can attach an external link — for example, a shared drive folder, a cloud document, or a streaming link. Click Add Link, paste the URL, give it a display name, and choose a category. External links appear alongside uploaded files in the same list and can be sorted and re-categorised. Note that external links cannot be sent to collaborators through MRP, downloaded directly, or given version history — those actions are only available for uploaded files.

Version history

When you replace an existing file with a newer version, MRP keeps the previous version in the file's version history. Click the clock icon on any file card to view its version history and, if needed, download an earlier version. Version history is stored indefinitely.

Sending a file to a collaborator

Any file in the Files & Documents section can be sent by email to a specific collaborator. Click the send icon on the file card, choose the collaborator from the list, and confirm. MRP sends the file link directly to their email address. This is useful when a co-writer or publisher needs a specific document — for example, a signed agreement or the generated Split Sheet — without needing to give them access to the full composition page.

Sorting files

Files in the list can be sorted by newest, oldest, title, or category using the sort control above the list. Sorting by category groups all files of the same type together, which is useful when a composition has many supporting documents.

Removing a file

Clicking the delete icon on a file card removes it from the active document list. This is a soft delete — the file is hidden from the composition view but the underlying record is preserved. Archived files can be permanently deleted by the composition creator from the archived files section. If you removed a file by mistake, contact the composition owner to restore it before it is permanently deleted.

The MRP Split Sheet

When a composition is locked, MRP automatically generates an MRP Split Sheet and stores it here. The Split Sheet documents the confirmed rights information at the moment of locking — writer names, IPI numbers, PRO affiliations, shares, and publisher details. It is labelled with the Split Sheet category and cannot be deleted by the creator. A copy is also emailed to all collaborators with a valid email address on file.
