What information does a composition need?
A summary of required, recommended, and optional information for a composition Passport.

Required before locking
Use the current Ready to Lock prompts on the composition as the authoritative checklist. Common required information includes:
- Title — the composition's primary title
- Writer shares — all writer percentages must total exactly 100%
- Eligible contributor confirmations — resolve any pending or change-requested rights proposal that MRP marks as blocking
- Publishing disposition — for each writer: self-published, has a publisher, or unpublished
- Publisher details — if any writer has a publisher, use the distinct Publisher IPI when a registration workflow requires it
- Valid publisher allocation — MRP prevents an over-allocation and does not invent a publisher share when none exists
- The required Guided Song Setup detail and PRO-readiness prompts
Recommended
These fields are not required to lock a composition, but they improve its completeness and are needed for certain workflows:
- Writer IPI / CAE numbers and separate Publisher IPIs — needed by the applicable registration workflow
- PRO affiliations — for each writer; required for TuneRegistry export
- Alternate title — any alternative or transliterated title for the work
- Audio links — links to a reference recording of the composition
- Uploaded documents — any supporting files you want attached to the Passport
Optional
The following details add depth to the Passport but are not required at any stage:
- ISWC — the International Standard Musical Work Code, if you have already obtained one
- Recording information — ISRCs, artists, labels, releases, master ownership, and SoundExchange-ready evidence
- Arrangement / version notes — for public-domain arrangements, modified versions, and multimedia productions
- Discussion notes — internal comments and collaboration history
IPI and TuneRegistry
An IPI (Interested Party Information) number uniquely identifies a songwriter or publisher in the global rights system. MRP will accept compositions without IPI numbers, but they are required when exporting to TuneRegistry for PRO registration. If you do not have an IPI number yet, you can add it to your profile and to your composition once your PRO assigns one to you.
